MOTORCYCLE SAFETY

BASIC RIDERCOURSE (BRC)

The Basic RiderCourse (BRC) is designed for new and inexperienced riders who want to learn the fundamentals of safe and responsible motorcycle operation. This comprehensive course combines online instruction with practical riding exercises to provide a well-rounded introduction to motorcycling.

COURSE CONTENT:

The BRC blends online learning with hands-on riding practice for a complete beginner-friendly experience. 

blue plusOnline Learning (5 hours): Learn the basics of motorcycle safety at your own pace—usually completed on Friday. The online course covers essential riding knowledge and prepares you for the practical sessions. Topics include risk management, riding within your skill level, and understanding the dynamics of two-wheeled vehicles. 
blue plusPractical Riding Exercises (11 hours): Join us on Saturday and Sunday for real-time riding exercises led by certified instructors. Gain hands-on experience with motorcycle controls, basic maneuvers, and riding techniques. Practice skills such as starting, stopping, turning, and swerving in a controlled environment. 

Classes happen rain or shine. No prior experience needed. 

Certification: Skip the written and driving tests at the DMV with your MSF certification. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic RiderCourse (BRC) certification, which qualifies for the “L” endorsement on a driver’s license. 

WHO CAN TAKE THE COURSE?

Age and Licensing: Open to individuals aged 14 and above. Participants under 18 must have written parental consent. 

Ages 14-15:

blue plusMust complete the MSF course 
blue plusMust pass the Class D written test at to get a motorcycle permit 
blue plusMust hold the permit for at least 30 days before applying for a license 
blue plusA parent or guardian must be present at testing 

Ages 16-17:

blue plusMust complete the MSF course 
blue plusIf you already have an Oklahoma Driver License, you can get the “L” endorsement with your MSF card 
blue plusIf not, you’ll need to pass the Class D written test 
blue plusSome agencies may require a 30-day permit first 

Ages 18+:

blue plusIf you have a valid Driver License, your MSF card may waive both the written and drive tests 
blue plusIf you’ve never had a license, you must pass both the Class D and motorcycle written tests 
blue plusA 30-day permit holding period may still apply in some cases—check with your local DPS office 

MOTORCYLES & GEAR:

Motorcycles and helmets will be provided. 

What to Bring (Required Gear):

blue plusDOT-compliant helmet (provided if needed) 
blue plusEye protection (face shield or glasses) 
blue plusLong-sleeved shirt or jacket 
blue plusLong, durable pants (no flare legs) 
blue plusOver-the-ankle boots 
blue plusFull-fingered gloves (leather preferred)
