Pond Management

Restore your pond. Increase value.

Need help with the green algae growing in your pond?

Want the healthiest environment to stock your pond for fish?

Simply want to know more about funding resources available?

Whether your pond is used for recreation, livestock water, habitat for fish and wildlife, it enhances the quality of life, and value of the property on which it is located.

However, did you know your pond should be inspected, and receive regular maintenance, as well? The three major parts of a pond – the dam, the watershed, and the basin – should be regularly inspected for irregularities, wayward vegetation, gopher holes, etc. Identifying and remedying issues early can prevent extensive costly repairs later.

We have partnered with the OSU Creek County Extension agency and the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service to bring you an informative workshop on pond management. You will meet experts with information on:

  • Fish Sampling Demonstration
  • NRCS Funding and Design
  • Pond Plant Life
  • Pond Water Quality

You will walk away from this workshop with:

  • A working knowledge and checklist to inspect your pond, ensuring its overall longevity.
  • Knowledge of tools and resources available to you from your local NRCS office.

In addition to having a healthy structure, a pond must also have a healthy number of aquatic plants. A healthy pond has a moderate amount of aquatic plants that do not interfere with the use and enjoyment of the pond.

This workshop gives you the opportunity to learn proper pond maintenance and balance. You will also receive instruction on available funding opportunities.

Reading Cattle EPD's

When the time arises to select your herd sire, the right bull makes a big impact.

Learn how to read your cattle Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs). EPD’s are statistics that help predict the performance ability of a sire or dam for certain traits relevant to beef production. With years of combined experience at the family farm, Whitney Harrison has grown to become a subject matter expert on Angus cattle seedstock. Walk away from this class with an understanding of:

  • Goal selection of your herd
  • The different EPDs measurements and how they are significant in choosing the right herd sire
  • How to avoid single trait selection.
  • How to balance the needs of your operation
