Central Tech’s career counselor receives award from the Association of Career and Technical Education.

The Association of Career and Technical Education (ACTE) named Diana Plummer, Central Tech’s Career Counselor, the National Career and Technical Education Educator of the Year for 2013. The Educator of the Year award honors career and technical educators, other than full-time teaches, who have provided significant contributions to professional associations and career and technical education (CTE) programs for youth and/or adults in their fields, communities and/or states.

Plummer has 17 years of classroom teaching experience and 13 years of secondary and postsecondary counseling experience.

“It’s such a great honor to receive this award as an educator,” Plummer said upon accepting her award. “I’ve been an educator for more than 30 years, and I’m a product of CareerTech, a member of BPA and FBLA. I fell in love with the system back then and saw the relevance. I love to empower students and I feel empowered because of ACTE and career and technical education.”

To reach the national level, Plummer received the Educator of the Year award from the state of Oklahoma, and again at the ACTE Region IV Competition. She was one of five finalists for the award. She was honored alongside other ACTE national award winners at an awards banquet held November 28 at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta. The banquet also highlighted the nominees, business and national winners from the national awards program.

Linda Enlow, assistant campus director for Central Tech’s Sapulpa Campus, was with Plummer when she was announced the award winner.

“We are so proud of Diana for her accomplishments,” Enlow said. “She makes a tremendous impact on the students in our district and is deserving of this award. I’m glad I was able to join her for this tremendous achievement.”

Central Tech congratulates Diana Plummer for her achievements in career and technical education.
