The weather on Monday, September 21 was perfect for a day on the links. The Ninth Annual Central Tech Foundation Ron Vandever Memorial Golf Tournament, held at the Buffalo Rock Golf & Gun Club in Cushing, brought out 151 golfers to help raise money for the Central Tech Foundation.
SpiritBank sponsored this year’s tournament with a great response from 44 business and community sponsors at the platinum, gold, silver and bronze levels.
Through the tournament, the Central Tech Foundation raised nearly $23,300 to assist needy Central Tech students as they prepare for technical careers. Last year, the foundation was able to provide financial assistance to 60 students from 19 local communities.
This year the tournament was spread out over the morning and afternoon with two flights of golfers in each round.
In the morning A Flight, the Community Bank team of Blake Barnett, Tyler Sullivan, Greg Mahaney, and Matt Smith won with a score of 54. Team Curry placed second with a score of 56 by team members Mike Legg, Clide Eslick, Vernon Curry, and Buddy Livingston.
In the morning B Flight, the MV Purchasing team of Margueriette Hutchison, Kyle Wright, Tom Bybee, and Rod Taylor won with a score of 64. After a tie breaker, second place in the morning B Flight was Mint Turbines with a score of 64 by team members Daniel Close, Danny Hickman, Randy Plunkett, and Jay-R Rodriquez.
In the afternoon A Flight, Team Hughes Anderson with players Kelly Bock, Billy Hill, Scott Sanders, and Jeff Gilbert placed 1st with a score of 50. Second place in the afternoon Flight A was the Riverside Group team with Daniel Hernandez, Donnie Jones, Jeremy Graham, and Scott House with a score of 51.
In the afternoon B Flight, Team Griffith Family with players Steve Spears, Brandon Griffith, Derek Griffith, and Mike Griffith placed 1st with a score of 60. Second place in the afternoon Flight B was the BancFirst team with Henry Jarvis, Geoff Beasley, Mel Cook, and Alan Geiger with a score of 61.
Winners of the closest to the pin challenges on hole two in the morning were Diana Dean of the Okie 811 team and Kyle Wright of the MV Purchasing team. In the afternoon, the winner of closest to the pin on hole two was Josh Michaels of the Mills Construction Team.
On hole eleven in the morning, the winners of the closest to the pin challenge were Josie Spencer of the SUNOCO team and Dick Childers of the Okie 811 team. In the afternoon, the winners of closest to the pin on hole 11 were Ashley Vandever of Ron’s Duffer’s and Scott Sanders of Team Hughes Anderson.
The winner of the closest to the line on hole eighteen was Troy Elliott of the Tech Labs team in the morning and Jennifer Wells of the CG Martin team and Zachary Grey of Team Mills Construction in the afternoon.
